You don&#8217;t need any sockets or wrenches, just a hammer and a screwdriver.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4028\" src=\"https:\/\/mechanicalmalarkey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/2018_07_26_01.jpg\" alt=\"2018_07_26_01.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>First, remove the spring, it should come out pretty easily.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4029\" src=\"https:\/\/mechanicalmalarkey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/2018_07_26_02.jpg\" alt=\"2018_07_26_02\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The caliper is held onto the bracket on the knuckle with two pins. Use a hammer and screwdriver to push them out. A new set of brake pads might come with new pins, otherwise clean them up to use again.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4030\" src=\"https:\/\/mechanicalmalarkey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/2018_07_26_03.jpg\" alt=\"2018_07_26_03\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once the pins are out, the caliper can be removed from the knuckle.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4031\" src=\"https:\/\/mechanicalmalarkey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/2018_07_26_04.jpg\" alt=\"2018_07_26_04\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Slide the brake pads towards the middle to remove them.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4032\" src=\"https:\/\/mechanicalmalarkey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/2018_07_26_05.jpg\" alt=\"2018_07_26_05\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re replacing the caliper, remove the banjo bolt from the brake line connection.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4033\" src=\"https:\/\/mechanicalmalarkey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/2018_07_26_06.jpg\" alt=\"2018_07_26_06\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Install new pads onto the caliper, position it in the knuckle, and hammer in the pins. Make sure you lubricate the pins.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4034\" src=\"https:\/\/mechanicalmalarkey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/2018_07_26_07.jpg\" alt=\"2018_07_26_07\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Install the spring on the back of the pads. A new set of pads might come with a new spring.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4035\" src=\"https:\/\/mechanicalmalarkey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/2018_07_26_08.jpg\" alt=\"2018_07_26_08\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The design is a bit awkward, having to install the pads in the caliper before putting it on the truck, and then getting it positioned right to get the pins in, but it&#8217;s not too hard of a job.
