One of the things I discovered was that only one of the two gas tank straps was holding it up.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2147\" src=\"https:\/\/mechanicalmalarkey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016_12_22_05.jpg\" alt=\"2016_12_22_05\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know how long it was like this, and I really don&#8217;t want to know. If the other had failed, it probably wouldn&#8217;t have been good. Might have gotten pretty hot.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2198\" src=\"https:\/\/mechanicalmalarkey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016_12_29_02.jpg\" alt=\"2016_12_29_02\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is all that was left of the strap that was still holding the tank up. I could easily bend it with my hands because it was so rusty.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2199\" src=\"https:\/\/mechanicalmalarkey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016_12_29_03.jpg\" alt=\"2016_12_29_03\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I got new straps, as well as new mounting hardware, because the old parts were now a single piece of rust.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2200\" src=\"https:\/\/mechanicalmalarkey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016_12_29_04.jpg\" alt=\"2016_12_29_04\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once I got the new straps in, I sprayed them with black spray paint to help keep them from rusting a little bit.
